In order to fulfill its objectives, EUKN works together with several international partners.

 

European  Commission

European Commission

The  European Commission, more specifically, the DG for Regional  Policy’s Urban Unit, has been actively involved from the very  beginning of EUKN. DG Environment with its Thematic Strategy on the  Urban Environment is also active in the field of urban policy, as  is DG Justice when it comes to the crucial issue of social  inclusion and integration. Both DG Environment and DG Research  contribute knowledge to the EUKN.

 

The URBACT  Programme
Urbact

URBACT, the 'European Network for Exchange of Experience',  is a European Commission programme that is part of the URBAN II  Community Initiative. URBACT's objectives are to highlight best  practices and to draw lessons from successes and weaknesses  identified in these programmes. The target group is urban players  from the 216 cities benefiting from the URBAN I and II programmes  and Urban Pilot Projects.



EUROCITIES

EUROCITIES  is the network of major European cities. Founded in 1986, the  network brings together the local governments of more than 130  large cities in over 30 European countries. EUROCITIES provides a  platform for its member cities to share knowledge and ideas,  exchange experiences, analyse common problems and develop  innovative solutions, through a wide range of forums, working  groups, projects, activities and events.



European Metropolitan network  Institute (EMI)

The European Metropolitan network Institute (EMI) acts as a hub for  knowledge and innovation management for European cities and  metropolitan areas, with the mission of facilitating and empowering  the implementation of “Europe 2020 - strategy for smart,  sustainable and inclusive growth," at the sub-national level.  The EMI serves as a bridge between policy makers, city officials  and scholars in the European Union, providing a framework for  realizing tailor-made and cross-sectoral solutions to common  metropolitan issues.



European  Website on Integration

The European Website on  Integration is an initiative of the Directorate  General for Justice, Liberty and Security  of the European  Commission. It aims to provide policy makers and practitioners  working on integration in Europe with a tool for the exchange of  information and good practice on integration across  Europe.



The European Liaison Committee  for Social Housing (CECODHAS)

CECODHAS, established in 1988, is the European network for the  promotion of the right to decent housing for all. In its membership  CECODHAS has 46 regional and national federations which together  represent over 39.000 public, voluntary and cooperative social  housing enterprises in 19 countries. Together they provide over 21  million homes across the European Union. CECODHAS is funded by  membership fees.

UN-HABITAT

The  United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT, is the  United Nations agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the  UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally  sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate  shelter for all.



IMISCOE
imiscoe 

IMISCOE is a  Network of Excellence that brings together some 400 selected,  highly qualified researchers of 22 established European research  institutes. They implement an integrated, multidisciplinary,  rigorously comparative research programme on migration, integration  and social cohesion, with Europe as its central focus.



European Urban Research Association  (EURA)

The European  Urban Research Association is an international network of urban  scholars, established in 1997. At a time when global forces are  strengthening and localism struggles to reassert itself, there is a  need to re-examine the place which cities take in the social and  economic order. EURA is mainly European through its membership and  expertise. As the world goes urban, it is therefore timely to  review and reflect the role and function of the city in a changing  Europe, examine European cities' similar characteristics (of  history and heritage, of design and built form, of politics,  governance and democracy, of economic function, of social structure  and association) and their distinctive features.


Organisation for Economic  Co-operation and Development (OECD)

The OECD brings together the governments of countries committed to  democracy and the market economy from around the world  to:

  • Support  sustainable economic growth;
  • Boost  employment;
  • Raise living  standards;
  • Maintain  financial stability;
  • Assist other  countries' economic development;
  • Contribute to growth in  world trade.

 

 

The Council of  Europe

The Council of Europe, founded in 1949, aims to:

  • protect human rights,  pluralist democracy and the rule of law;
  • promote awareness and  encourage the development of Europe's cultural identity and  diversity;
  • find common solutions to  the challenges facing European society such as discrimination  against minorities, xenophobia, intolerance, bioethics and cloning,  terrorism, trafficking in human beings, organised crime and  corruption, cybercrime, violence against children;
  • consolidate democratic  stability in Europe by backing political, legislative and  constitutional reform.

European Network for Housing Research  (ENHR)

The network  is composed of researchers from a variety of social science  disciplines dealing with housing and urban issues. In addition to  its basic goal of supporting research, the Network also seeks to  promote contacts and communications between researchers and  practitioners within the housing field.



European Spatial Planning  Observation Network (ESPON)

The European  Spatial Planning Observation Network (ESPON) is set up to support  policy development and to build a European scientific community in  the field of territorial development. The main aim is to increase  the general body of knowledge about territorial structures, trends  and policy impacts in an enlarged European Union.
