Network lead

The network is run by the DV-GmbH (Associated Company of the German Association for Housing, Urban and Spatial Development). The DV-GmbH distributes the publications of the DSSW, organises several instruments to vitalize inner cities and city centres and runs expert events. Furthermore, it organises the regular exchange between the platform participants.

Objectives
DSSW

The aim of the platform is to maintain and to strengthen vibrant inner cities and bring together experts from different fields of action. In this framework, it tries to stimulate different sectors important to the development of inner cities and community centres. One example of the current discussion is the collapse of the department store concept in Germany. This results in a number of problems like empty properties and the loss of an important hub for the inner city retail. The DSSW-Plattform wants to work out solutions and get city centres prepared for their challenges.

Products

The platform organises expert events and knowledge transfer for the issues of inner cities and municipal centres. Furthermore it offers practical instruments which can easily be used by municipalities to manage vacancy, gaps between buildings or to collect data about clusters of local economy.

EU involvement

It is planned to create a Europe-wide network for inner cities and municipal centres. Thereby it can profit from its contacts to Brussels (the DV has an office there).
