UN-HABITAT partners with University of Peace
UN-HABITAT and the University of Peace (UPEACE) have signed an agreement offering a new course in urban governance. The programme is designed for post-graduate students keen to contribute to a better urban future.
The MA programme is designed to prepare policy- and decision-makers at all levels
The new partnership will promote a new Masters of Arts in
Sustainable Urban Governance and Peace in the coming academic year.
The Masters programme enables students to learn about urban
governance, urban risk & resilience and peace, and give them
the chance to meet those dealing with these matters on a daily
basis. The MA programme is designed to prepare policy- and
decision-makers at all levels (community, municipal, national,
regional, global) for twenty-first century urban challenges, and to
provide communities and urban liveability advocates with the tools
and perspectives that may help them efficiently address their goals
and aspirations. UN-HABITAT will support the programme by helping
to shape content, sending visiting scholars, offering internships,
and maintaining a strong advocacy for this type of learning.
To provide humanity with an international institution of higher education for peace
The United Nations-mandated University for Peace (headquartered
in Costa Rica) was established in December 1980 as a Treaty
Organization by the UN General Assembly. The mission of the
University for Peace is: “to provide humanity with an international
institution of higher education for peace with the aim of promoting
among all human beings the spirit of understanding, tolerance and
peaceful coexistence, to stimulate cooperation among peoples and to
help lessen obstacles and threats to world peace and progress, in
keeping with the noble aspirations proclaimed in the Charter of the
United Nations.”
