Marginal or modern? - Rotterdam, the Netherlands
31 Oct 2003The big cities of the Netherlands are growing towards a dangerous and perhaps explosive situation. There is an increase in serious and common place crime, but the capability of the government to protect its citizens is declining. A disproportionately large part of judicial and police capacity is spent on are latively small group of repeat offenders, while a large number of the common but nuisance-causing offences are not effectively combated. In time, this lowers trust in the legal system.

Crime rates in EU drop slower
26 Jan 2012Crime keeps decreasing throughout the EU, but at a less steady pace than in recent years. This is one of the main conclusions of the recently published Eurostat report ‘Crime and Criminal Justice, 2006-2009’, in which statistics on various types of crime in the different Member States are monitored and analyzed. Though the trend of a decreasing crime rate is significant, notable differences between countries and types of crime remain.
