Report: A practitioner's view on neighbourhood regeneration

Starting point for this report was a core group of 6 cities of the Working group of Urban Regeneration of EUROCITIES started 1,5 year ago a unique project in which practitioners working daily in deprived neighbourhoods, exchanged experiences and tested the mainstream ideas of urban regeneration against practical experiences.

Drafted jointly by EUROCITIES members Lille Metropole and Oslo and Nicis Institute, the report presents practical examples from across the EU which demonstrate the increasing prominence of metropolitan areas. It adds that the role of metropolitan areas is best shaped through bottom-up processes in local partnerships and that metropolitan area governance will best succeed when adapted to work alongside existing political and administrative structures. The report stresses that functional partnerships should be promoted with support at national and EU level.
