'Piccolingo' campaign on early language learning
14 Mar 2012In the fall of 2010, the European Commission launched the ‘Piccolingo’ campaign on early language learning. The initiative intends to raise parents' awareness of the benefits of early language learning and to provide practical information and support to improve foreign language skills among children of pre-school age.

2010: Towards a European digital library
23 Jul 2007As our societies are becoming increasingly digitalised, French MEP Marie-Hélène Descamps debates the creation of a European digital library containing the wealth and diversity of European cultural heritage. Ms Descamps believes that ‘the project symbolises Europe united in diversity and contributes to the enhancement and strengthening of an authentic European identity’. European libraries, universities and cultural institutions are all invited to contribute to the electronic database, which is expected to benefit both European citizens as well as the education, science, research, tourism and mediasector.

Amsterdam: School for precious metals to become centre for transfer of knowledge and experience
01 Dec 2006The building will be completed in mid-2006. Adult education, social and cultural activities and small-scale enterprise will be brought together in a single multi-tenant building. Some 4,000 m² of floor space will be renovated in total, with one part reserved for small-scale business premises and the other for cultural entrepreneurs and artists.

Vibrant neighbourhoods and successful schools
10 Sep 2009For many families, the composition and quality of local public schools are primary factors in choosing a neighbourhood and investing in a house or apartment. Families who can afford to choose where to live avoid communities where schools perform poorly, thereby fuelling higher rents and property values in communities with highly regarded schools. In turn, local property values determine how much a jurisdiction can spend on teachers and school facilities. And as a consequence, schools in communities where low-cost housing is clustered often suffer from insufficient funding, obsolete facilities, and overextended teachers struggling to serve concentrations of needy students.

World Music and Dance Centre - Rotterdam, the Netherlands
31 Dec 2006Codarts (formerly Hogeschool voor Muziek en Dans (College of Music and Dance)) and Stichting Kunstzinnige Vorming Rotterdam (SKVR) (Arts Training Rotterdam Foundation) are jointly creating an international World Music and Dance Centre (WMDC) in Rotterdam which will focus on developing talent, research and performance. The thorough restoration and expansion of and improved access to two adjoining historical buildings including a courtyard will create a large-scale complex. This will create a unique stage, centre of expertise and meeting place for music and dance styles from throughout the world. The projectis split into the (re)building of the centre and the programming.
