European Energy Efficiency Fund to contribute to energy efficiency and renewable energy projects

On 1 July 2011, the European Commission launched a new 146 million euro fund aimed at supporting energy efficiency and renewable energy projects in Europe. The European Energy Efficiency Fund (EEEF) aims at providing market-based financing for commercially viable projects that can contribute to energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, particularly in urban settings.

Funds from the European Energy Programme for Recovery

This EU contribution comes from funds mobilised for the European Energy Programme for Recovery which could not immediately be allocated to projects in other sectors. The setting up of the fund follows an agreement between the Council of Ministers and the European Parliament in December 2010 to a European Commission proposal.
