Question 2 is about smaller and medium-sized cities
The city of Barcelona would like to know the challenges of urban regions that consist of many small and medium-sized towns and cities. The number of inhabitants in these smaller and medium-sized cities has doubled over the past 20-30 years. This means that besides urban sprawl, the composition of the urban region as a whole has changed significantly. In the urban region of Barcelona there are quite a lot of small and medium-sized towns, like Sant Andreu de la Barca, Parets del Vallés and Rubí.
Barcelona would specifically like to know:
- In what way your urban region is trying to build up an ´urban life´ in new small and medium-sized towns/cities regarding facilities for citizens, tourist attractions and ways to attract industries?
- In what way your region has adapted urban policies to these changed circumstances? Do you have any best practices you would like to share?
- According to you, is there a universal way in which the added value of ´urban life´ can be defined in the context of Europe?
