Introduction

In July 2010, the European Network for Housing Research organises its annual conference (the 22nd edition), in Istanbul, Turkey. The theme of the conference is "crossing into the second decade of the third millennium".

Description

During the conference, the main theme of the conference will be elaborated by giving answers to three basic questions as follows:

  • Where are we now?

  • What does the future hold?

  • Wat should we do?

ENHR conferences have always created excellent opportunities for housing and urban researchers to exchange ideas and research findings, to establish networks within the wider European Network for Housing Research, and to encourage collaborative study. These networks within the ENHR are organised as Working Groups, and have shaped the Workshops of ENHR conferences. There are 24 ENHR Working Groups, and as usual they will shape the workshop structure of the ENHR2010 Istanbul Conference.

Every second year, ENHR Conferences include a New Housing Researchers Colloquium for PhD students.  An NHR2010 Colloquium will also take place in Istanbul on 2-3 July, 2010. Senior housing and urban researchers are invited to advise their PhD students to follow the link provided on the website of ENHR2010 to reach the website of the NHR2010 colloquium.

Programme

The ENHR 2010 Istanbul conference will take place over 4 days and will be limited to approximately 400 urban and housing researchers, and PhD students.

Opening session, and the first plenary session will take place on the first day of the conference and will bring all conference participants together under the main conference themes.  The second, and the third days of the conference will include two parallel plenary sessions focusing on specific aspects of the conference theme, and will provide answers to the questions of where are we nowand what does the future hold respectively. The last plenary session on the third day will again bring all conference participants together, and by answering the last question what should we do? will provide research questions for the next decade. The second and third days of the conference will include 25 parallel workshops. The last day of the conference will start with a presentation on Urban Dynamics and Housing Change in Istanbul and will be followed by thematic study tours.
