Urban Climate Resilience – Partnership Approaches, Glasgow, 29 - 30 May 2012

*Save the Date* : URBAN-NEXUS will hold its first Dialogue Café on the topic of “Urban Climate Resilience – Partnership Approaches” on the 29th-30th May 2012 in Glasgow.

As of  September 2011 the EU FP7 project URBAN-NEXUS is underway! Within this 3 year project on sustainable urban development, 5 interactive ‘Dialogue Cafés’ will be organised to initiate debate on urban research, policy and practice with stakeholders and to create new partnerships to address some of the issues and opportunities identified  over the course of the project.

The topic of the first Dialogue Café  will be Urban Climate Resilience. A Synthesis Paper is currently under development which will inform the proceedings and will be circulated widely by mid-May. The Dialogue Café will be interactive  to maximise opportunities for partnership building and knowledge exchange.

Issues for discussion will include:
Glasgow
  • Health:  e.g heat stress/stroke, increasing risk of certain diseases, pathogens and parasitic infections, social impacts of flooding and drought, increasing vulnerability associated with demographic change, ageing etc.
  • Sustainable Land use: e.g. Green & blue infrastructure, urban drainage, flood mitigation.
  • Climate resilient governance: e.g. integrated approaches, differing temporal and spatial scales, policy constraints and conflicts, sectoral divides (silos), innovation, learning and leadership, public awareness and engagement, behaviour change and values etc.
  • Risk and uncertainty: e.g. vulnerability assessments, decision-making tools, modelling, projections and probabilities, scenario-planning, data and monitoring needs .
Agenda

A detailed agenda will be available early May. The dialogue café will start at 09:00 on Tuesday 29th May and end at 16:00 Wednesday 30th May, with an evening meal on Tuesday and a selection of site visits on Wednesday.
