Request for input EMI knowledge and research agenda ‘Economic vitality’
EUKN is asked by the recently established European Metropolitan network Institute (EMI) to do the following request: EMI is looking for (policy) papers and research in view of the development of its first knowledge and research agenda on economic vitality. Based on the challenges confronting Europe’s metropolitan regions, EMI is currently developing several knowledge and research agendas. The aim of these agendas is to identify interesting so-called ‘lessons learned’ and best practices from metropolitan regions around Europe.
EMI’s activities are centred on the principle of “research based, practice led”, the idea being to engage practitioners, policy makers, experts and scholars at the earliest possible stage. Given this mission, we would like to ask you for your input on EMI’s first knowledge and research agenda: Economic Vitality of European Metropolitan Regions. The aim of this agenda is to address current economic challenges with regard to the competitiveness of cities and/or regions. In other words, what strategy do various metropolitan regions use in order to strengthen their competitive position, and what kind of policy actions and instruments have they come up with for achieving this strategy?
EMI is especially interested in your input on the following questions: In your view, which economic themes should be addressed in this agenda? Which European metropolitan regions are vital in this comparative research, and can you explain why these regions are of particular significance? Can you identify which metropolitan regions in your own country might be considered especially interesting examples/case studies and what are the main economic challenges that these regions face?
We invite you to send us the most important strategic policy papers and reports on economic productivity and competitiveness in your country. Which studies on this theme have been recently completed; what research has been conducted or is currently in progress? Based on these documents we will be able to identify the main economic themes and set up a knowledge and research agenda which will be instructive for all metropolitan regions and cities in Europe.
We would very much appreciate it if you could send us the main strategic policy papers and research on economic productivity and competitiveness. Please send your suggestions, documents and information to: marloes.hoogerbrugge@emi-network.eu.
