ZOOM - Kids on the Move 2010! - two months to go

Until the beginning of the 16th UN Climate Summit at November 29th children all over Europe are ZOOMing in and get into action for climate protection. Primary school and kindergarten children in ten European countries are collecting Green Footprints for their Joint Climate Voyage around the One World.

Description

ZOOM is a Europe wide campaign of Climate Alliance of European Cities. Since 2002 the ZOOM campaign invites children to carry out an activity week dedicated to sustainable mobility and climate change, focusing on the fun of movement and independent mobility. Zooming to school on foot, bus, bikes or scooters, the kids discover their daily journeys and experience how this helps to treat the world's climate with care. For each journey they make using a sustainable means of transport, they receive one "Green Footprint". Especially children in Austria, Germany and the Netherlands chose the European Mobility Week from 16 to 22 September for their activities on climate change and sustainable mobility. In the Netherlands over 60,000 children were ZOOMing in and collecting "Groene Voetstappen" during the European Mobility Week. Also in Germany, where children in more than 80 municipalities are collecting "Grüne Meilen" and in Austria, where over 200 schools are participating, many activity weeks are running just now. Ulrike Janssen, Director of Climate Alliance, said: "We´re very pleased that many schools and kindergartens are planning their activity weeks even before the official start signal is given. To them collecting green footprints is part and parcel of the annual school activities."Also schools in Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, Romania, Sweden and Switzerland are joining the campaign in 2010. Europe-wide Climate Alliance assumes more than 125,000 children to collect Green Footprints until the end of November.

The Green Footprints from all over Europe will be presented to the participants of the 16th UN Climate Conference in Cancún, Mexico, to show that children in Europe already walk and not just talk for the World´s Climate. All schools and kindergartens are still invited to ZOOM in and participate until the end of November - the more Green Footprints the better for the World´s Climate! The Zoom campaign is carried out by Climate Alliance since 2002 and so far had over 700,000 participants from 27 countries.
