European Green Capital award 2011 goes to Hamburg

The European Green Capital award, created by the European Commission, each year recognises a city which has a consistent record of high environmental standards and continues to strive for further environmental improvement. These cities act as role models for others hoping to achieve similar green credentials. This year the award was given to Hamburg for its ‘Train of Ideas’.

And the winner is…Hamburg

This year the prize to become the 2011 European Green Capital was awarded to the city of Hamburg. came up with a novel idea to share its green ideas with the rest of Europe. The ‘Train of Ideas’ left Hamburg on the 15 April 2011 and will travel to 18 European cities until the end of October, showcasing the city’s best sustainable practices in the form of an onboard exhibition.

About European Green Capital

The next European Green Capital will be Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain) for 2012 and Nantes (France) for 2013. The 2014 European Green Capital is being selected this year, with entries open now until 14 October.
