EIB grants 500 million euros to France for urban investment 29-05-2006 The European Investment Bank (EIB) teamed up with three French partners in a
500 million euros National Urban and Social Regeneration Programme. The partners
are the Ministry of Employment, Social Cohesion and Housing, the National Urban
Regeneration Agency (ANRU) and Dexia Crédit Local. The loan will be used to
finance investment by regional and local authorities that have signed agreements
with ANRU on the implementation of urban and social regeneration schemes in some
of France's 200 sensitive urban areas.
According to the EIB, a number of projects to be financed by the loan are
also eligible for Community or national support measures under the EU's regional
development heading. This makes the loan fully compatible with EU economic and
social cohesion, urban environment and sustainable development policies. These
key European objectives underlie the EIB's lending priorities and warrant its
involvement.
