Awards for preservation of cultural heritage
06-06-2006

The European Commission and Europa Nostra, a platform of NGOs, call for entries for the 2006 European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage and the 2006 Europa Nostra Awards. Prize money to be awarded totals 60.000 euros.
The aims of the awards are three-fold:
  • to promote high standards in conservation practice;
  • to stimulate trans-boundary exchanges of knowledge and skills;
  • to encourage further exemplary initiatives in the field of cultural heritage.
Prizes are awarded in three categories:
  1. projects aimed at the conservation of architectural heritage, of landscapes, of works of art and of archaeological sites - deadline for submitting entries: 14 September 2006;
  2. studies aimed at the enhancement of any of the above mentioned category 1 areas - deadline for submitting entries: 31 August 2006;
  3. individuals or groups that made a contribution to heritage conservation - deadline for submitting entries: 14 September 2006.
The European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage and the Europa Nostra Awards were jointly launched in 2002 by Europa Nostra and the European Commission, in the framework of the Commission’s Culture 2000 programme, to recognize best practices in heritage conservation on a European level.
