Germany presents Territorial Agenda for the EU
14-08-2006

The German government has adopted a draft Territorial Agenda for the EU, up for discussion during the upcoming German EU Presidency. Germany will take up the Presidency on 1 January 2007. An Informal Ministerial conference on the Agenda will be held in Leipzig on 24 and 25 May 2007. The Territorial Agenda discusses the role European cities and regions can play in meeting the EU´s goals of sustainable economic development.
At the Ministerial Conference in Leipzig ministers responsible for Spatial Development in EU Member States will adopt the so-called Territorial Agenda for the EU. Agreeing upon this Agenda constitutes the preliminary culmination of a process which was launched on the occasion of the Informal Ministerial conference in Rotterdam in 2004 and was continued in Luxembourg in 2005.
The Territorial Agenda for the EU aims at mobilising the potentials of European regions and cities for sustainable economic growth and more jobs. The recommendations delivered by the Territorial Agenda of the EU are based on an analysis embodied in the expert report document "Territorial State and Perspectives of the EU".
For more information on the Draft Agenda, please visit the German Federal Ministry of Transport Building and Urban Affairs (BMVBS; see link below).
