Integrative approach is success factor for cities 08-08-2006 The world’s most successful cities are integrating approaches to social,
economic, and environmental issues, as well as addressing governmental concerns.
This is stated in a special report on global competition by the Urban Land
Institute.

What is striking about these nine cities is that they are situated on
different continents. This supports the view that cities can learn from each
other and that successful methods can indeed be exchanged.
One of the researchers from the Urban Land Institute explains why these
cities are chosen as successful examples of the integrative approach: “…they are
willing to put certain constraints on vehicle traffic, and they are recognizing
the importance of public life to society and to the safety and enjoyment of
cities. These cities have started to provide quality environments, and people
have begun to come back into them and enjoy them in a new way.”
