European
Commission
The European Commission, more specifically, the DG for Regional Policy’s Urban Unit, has been actively involved from the very beginning of the project. DG Environment with its Thematic Strategy on the Urban Environment is also active in the field of urban policy, as is DG Justice when it comes to the crucial issue of social inclusion and integration. Both DG Environment and DG Research have contributed knowledge to the EUKN. The URBACT
Programme
URBACT, the 'European Network for Exchange of Experience', is a European Commission programme that is part of the URBAN II Community Initiative. URBACT's objectives are to highlight best practices and to draw lessons from successes and weaknesses identified in these programmes. The target group is urban players from the 216 cities benefiting from the URBAN I and II programmes and Urban Pilot Projects. EUROCITIES
EUROCITIES is the network of major European cities. Founded in 1986, the network brings together the local governments of more than 120 large cities in over 30 European countries. EUROCITIES provides a platform for its member cities to share knowledge and ideas, exchange experiences, analyse common problems and develop innovative solutions, through a wide range of forums, working groups, projects, activities and events. The Academy
for Sustainable Communities (ASC)
ASC is the UK centre of excellence to pioneer the development of leading
edge skills, knowledge and learning to bridge the skills gap nationwide. ASC is
working to ensure that there are sufficient people with the right skills to
deliver and maintain sustainable communities both nationally and
internationally. ASC is a key part of the UK Government’s drive to create local
communities that are vibrant, prosperous and attractive to live in, now and in
the future. To achieve this vision requires skills — not just the skills needed
to build places to live, but also core generic skills such as inclusive
visioning, community engagement, leadership, breakthrough thinking/brokerage,
partnership working and project management, financial management and appraisal,
stakeholder management and including conflict resolution.
The
European Liaison Committee for Social Housing (CECODHAS)
CECODHAS, established in 1988, is the European network for the promotion of
the right to decent housing for all. In our membership we have 46 regional and
national federations which together represent over 39.000 public, voluntary and
cooperative social housing enterprises in 19 countries. Together they provide
over 21 million homes across the European Union. CECODHAS is funded by
membership fees. PENDING PARTNERS
EUKN intends to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with the pending
partners assuring their full partnership in the future.
UN-HABITAT
The UN-HABITAT United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-HABITAT, is the United Nations agency for human settlements. It is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities with the goal of providing adequate shelter for all. IMISCOE
IMISCOE is a Network of Excellence that brings together some 400 selected, highly qualified researchers of 22 established European research institutes. They implement an integrated, multidisciplinary, rigorously comparative research programme on migration, integration and social cohesion, with Europe as its central focus. European Urban
Research Association (EURA)
EURA is mainly European through its membership and expertise. As the world goes urban, it is time to review and reflect the role and function of the city in a changing Europe, examine European cities' similar characteristics (of history and heritage, of design and built form, of politics, governance and democracy, of economic function, of social structure and association) and their distinctive features.
