Habitat JAM: Preparing for Vancouver- World Wide Web, 1-3 December 2005
01-12-2005

Introduction
In preparation for the UN-World Urban Forum to be held in Vancouver in June 2006, the Government of Canada, in partnership with IBM and UN-HABITAT, organises a global 72-hour internet event from December 1st to 3rd, 2005, the ´Habitat JAM´.
Description
More than a 100,000 people from all parts of the world are expected to discuss, debate and collaborate with governments, urban planners and architects, grassroots organizations, global NGOs, private industry, experts, academics, financiers, builders and development specialists on issues that affect their daily lives. By means of the JAM UN-HABITAT seeks to forge a holistic, global view on challenges that face a rapidly urbanizing planet.
The high-level JAM forum topics are:
  • improving the lives of urban poor from around the world;
  • sustainable access to water in our cities;
  • environmental sustainability in our cities;
  • finance and governance in our cities;
  • safety and security in our cities;
  • humanity: the future of our cities.
During the JAM, participants can read what others have to say, introduce new ideas or respond to someone else's comments. Participants can share their expertise in any or all of the six JAM forums. UN-HABITAT asks experts on these or other ´urban´ topics to participate in the Habitat JAM. Please register at the Habitat JAM website. Once you have registered, UN-HABITAT will email instructions on how to participate in the discussions 1-3 December 2005.
