Final conference of ECO-FIN-NET - Marseille, 27-28 March 2006 27-03-2006 Introduction The final conference of the URBACT network ECO-FIN-NET - a European city
network which deals with the “SMEs’ access to finance” in the less favoured
urban areas - will take place on 27 and 28 March 2006 in Marseille.
Description
Currently, the ECO-FIN-NET comes to its final stage. During the last two and
a half years, the thirteen partner cities exchanged their experiences regarding
local economic development strategies and worked out new and efficient ways for
the local support of small and medium sized enterprises (SME) in deprived
neighbourhoods.
Particular attention was paid to the support of micro and small businesses by
innovative financial instruments as, especially in the derelict urban areas, the
local economy consists largely in those businesses.
The final conference in Marseille will draw a bow from the practical view of
the partner cities of the ECO-FIN-NET and their good practice experiences to the
general perspectives of the future European SME Support Policy.
The main objective will be to present the various results and recommendations
of the ECO-FIN-NET to a broader public. In this context, the importance and
perspectives of local SME support (e.g. micro-financing) as well as a more
efficient use of public financial means within the next programming period for
the Structural Funds will be the topics of the debate.
The final conference will provide a platform for discussions between high
ranking representatives of European and national institutions, politicians and
practitioners of Cities and Regions as well as experts on urban economic
development throughout Europe.
