Introduction

“Making Connections” is the second official meeting of officers responsible for international and European affairs in local and regional authorities. Aim of the conference is to connect the European and international dimension to everyday issues at local and regional levels. By bringing all the local and regional international officers together “Making Connections” seeks to stimulate the exchange of experiences and knowledge.

Description

At the conference six workshops are organised, with the following themes:

dealing with the new structural funds and R&D programmes;
small and medium sized local and regional authorities – facing EU policies;
with or without a European constitution – what is the role of local and regional authorities – subsidiarity, consultation and implementation?;
Plan D – How to communicate Europe to citizens, administration and politicians?;
different national models of decentralised cooperation in the EU member states – models and problems;
twinning – new trends and developments.

The conference is organised by the Swedish Association of Local Authorities & Regions, SALAR.
