Urban Futures 2.0 – Stockholm, 3-5 May 2006
03-05-2006

Introduction
Urban Futures 2.0 will explore how the different levels of government can work closer together in partnership to meet the Union’s policy challenges, in cooperation with researchers and civil society. The conference wants to establish a working dialogue across all areas with an urban impact between the different spheres of government.
The European Urban Knowledge Network (EUKN) is actively involved in the Urban Futures 2.0 conference. EUKN will organize two knowledge seminars for high-profile politicians together with the Academy for Sustainable Communities and two workshops for policy makers and practitioners.
Description
High-level European, national and local politicians, together with researchers and practitioners, will use Urban Futures 2.0 as a platform to achieve further knowledge and create the tools to accomplish a European urban policy agenda.
The exchange of knowledge and practical experience of urban policies between cities, regions, Member States and the EU institutions is one of the central themes. The European Urban Knowledge Network will contribute to the conference discussions and forums by organising the following events:
  • knowledge seminar on 3 May together with the Academy for Sustainable Communities;
  • workshop on European Knowledge Exchange on Sustainable Urban Development on 4 May;
  • workshop on Economic Opportunity Zone on 4 May.
This high-level European urban conference is organised by the Swedish Government and the City of Stockholm, in cooperation with the European Commission. Urban Futures 2.0 will focus on urban governance and partnerships between different spheres of government. It is part of the political agenda for 2005-2006 agreed by EU Ministers in charge of urban policy with the aim of strengthening urban development in a European context. It is also part of the Swedish metropolitan policy and a follow-up to the conference on urban policy developments organised during the Swedish EU Presidency in 2001.
