Tenth Conference on Urban and Regional Research – Bratislava, 22-23 May 2006 22-05-2006 Introduction The Conference on Urban and Regional Research is organised periodically by
the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), more specific the
Committee on Human Settlements. This year’s theme is “Sharing responsibility for
our region: redefining the public interest for territorial development”.
Description
At the Conference, policy makers, urban planners and researchers are invited
to share their points of view on urban research and its practical implications.
By doing so, the conference aims to assist policy makers in their
decision-making and contribute to a better understanding of future research
needs.
The basic objective of the Tenth Conference is to use the results of research
for guidance on what practical steps are needed to deliver more viable cities.
Building on previous UNECE research conference findings, the Tenth Conference is
holding its debates at two interdependent levels: the city and the urban region.
The tenth conference is organised in cooperation with the Council of Europe’s
European Conference of Ministers responsible for Regional Planning (CEMAT), at
the invitation of the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development,
Slovakia.
