LUDA Final Conference – Brussels, 22 June 2006 22-06-2006 Introduction The project Improving the Quality of Life in Large Urban Distressed Areas (
LUDA ), developed tools, methods and approaches that aim to assist
decision-makers in challenging the problems of improving the quality of life in
large urban distressed areas. At this conference, the results of the LUDA
Project - a novel ‘community-based’ approach providing a holistic vision of the
‘quality of life’ as well as the leading edge e-document of the LUDA project -
the e-Compendium will be presented and discussed.
Description
LUDA promoted the exchange of information and experiences between six project
partner cities (Bratislava, Dresden, Edinburgh, Florence, Lisbon and
Valenciennes). In Brussels, representatives of the project partner cities of
Dresden, Florence and Lisbon will refer to the improvements made in the cities’
case areas as well as the future prospects for establishing sustainable urban
regeneration.
The project partners worked from a basic principle that urban regeneration
must be viewed holistically and be directly linked with the quality-of-life that
is relative to the people that populate such areas. In addition, the LUDA
approach identified the key aspects of improving environmental sustainability,
economic prosperity and social inclusion.
LUDA is a research project of Key Action 4 „City of Tomorrow & Cultural
Heritage“ of the programme „Energy, Environment and Sustainable Development“
within the Fifth Framework Programme of the European Union. The project was
funded by the EC for the period February 2003 to May 2006.
