World Forum on Human Rights – Nantes, 10-13 July 2006

Introduction
The second World Forum on Human Rights will be held in Nantes from 10 to 13 July 2006. The year 2006 sees the 40th anniversary of the adoption of the International Covenants on Civil and Political Rights, and Economic, Social and Cultural Rights by the General Assembly of the United Nations. In Nantes, topical issues relating to Human Rights will be debated by policy makers, members of international organisations, of academia and representatives of civil society from all over the world.
Description
At the conference three general themes will shape the programme: 
  1. Discrimination and Diversity;
  2. Economic Globalisation and Human Rights;
  3. Responsibilities and Solidarities.
Within those themes, specific topics will be addressed. Two topics have a direct relevance for cities: 
  • The role of cities and local authorities in the implementation of Human Rights. 
  • The International Coalition of Cities against Racism.
Participants in the conference will be able to attend and participate in:
  • plenary sessions - each plenary session is devoted to the exposition of the global scope of one of the main;
  • round tables - the round tables present, along specific topic lines, declinations of one of the three main themes;
  • workshops;
  • other types of events, actions and exhibitions.
