EUROCITIES
Introduction The rise in urban mobility in most Spanish cities gave birth to an increased
traffic congestion, increased energy consumption and repercussions on the
quality of the urban environment. Measures designed to encourage the use of
public transport, create spaces prioritised for pedestrians, provide alternative
routes and effective spaces for bypassing city centres and distributing traffic,
promote other means of transport, streamline distribution of goods and their
orderly loading and unloading, are elaborated.
Description
Cities are striving towards a sustainable mobility and need to build
integrated approaches combining transport, environmental and spatial planning.
In order to achieve this, social partners and interested stakeholders need to be
consulted.
The conference will raise awareness of stakeholders about transport
challenges faced by cities and will publicise different tools being applied and
experience gained in relation to mobility. This will surely contribute to
appropriate decisions to reach a more sustainable future for urban mobility.
