Planning, IFHP, takes place in Geneva on 13-16 September 2006. The congress
theme is ´Urban life, boundaries and transformations´.
Description
The programme includes general physical limits as well as several new and
different boundaries, all of which are throwing up new challenges for the urban
planning profession. Globalisation, mobility, urban sprawl, ecological
footprints, multi-ethnicity, multi-culturality: these issues demonstrate that
there is a general increase in scale affecting social trends. On the other hand,
there is a counter-tendency towards fragmentation in the various fields included
in housing and planning. Local identification, social fragmentation and the need
for good governance challenge us to adjust our approaches to the city of today.
Sub-themes
The discussions will take place in three sections over three days. Every morning, one of the sub-themes will be presented during a plenary session. The sub-themes are:
Call for papers
The organisers invite researchers and those active in the field of urban disciplines (sociology, economy, architecture, and planning) to submit brief papers dealing with the congressional theme. Accounts of personal experiences will be welcome. Papers may put forward hypotheses, examine specific issues or present analyses, practical projects or research results. The themes for the papers at the 2006 congress are the following:

February 2006 at the latest. They should be sent by
e-mail to the congress secretariat.
