INTA30: How will cities and territories compete in tomorrow’s world – Belfast, 8-11 October 2006
08-10-2006

Introduction
The International Urban Development Association (INTA) organises its 30th World Urban Development Congress. Cities are strategic centres of growth and creativity. Ensuring their sustainable development is essential. It is the responsibility of urban actors to address this challenge through the use of innovative management solutions. How should governance change to meet this challenge? Should the focus be on regions, cities or local communities? Top down or bottom up? What tools are available? What cities and territories are ahead of the game? At INTA30, answers are sought to these questions.
Description
At the conference, four themes will be addressed:
  1. creativity - the creative class, innovation and knowledge based economy;
  2. competitiveness - effective governance mechanisms and quality of urban development;
  3. community - social inclusion, accessibility and culture;
  4. conflict - resolution, environmental justice, mobility and clean energy.
INTA is an international network that encourages the exchange of information, experience and best practices on urban development and renewal across the world.
Incorporated in Paris in 1974 as a not-for-profit association, INTA has been granted Category 2 Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations and has Consultative Status with the Council of Europe.
