International Conference on Urban Health – Amsterdam, 25-28 October 2006 25-10-2006 Introduction The 5th annual International Conference on Urban Health (ICUH) is organised
by the Municipal Health Service of Amsterdam under the auspices of the
International Society for Urban Health (ISUH). The theme of the 2006 conference
is: “Population mobility and its effect on urban health”, with a special
interest in the consequences of migration on health and health care in urban
settings.
Description
More than half the world’s population will be living in urban areas by 2007.
As the pace of urbanization increases, it is becoming increasingly important to
understand the impact that urban living has on health and behaviour.
The conference will consist of plenary lectures, parallel sessions,
workshops, symposia and poster presentations providing an opportunity for
education and discussion on the latest information relevant to all aspects of
urban health.
About 600 attendees are expected from all over the world and comprise of a
range of community members, professionals and academics, including
epidemiologists, public policy professionals, public health practitioners,
nurses, physicians, urban planners, social workers and sociologists. The ICUH
encourages the participation of urban health investigators and practitioners
from all over the world, including those from developing countries.
The International Society for Urban Health (ISUH) facilitates the exchange of
perspectives, research methods, and data on the study of disease in urban areas
and the effects of urbanization on health. Membership is open to anyone
interested in the health of urban populations. More information is available on
