Introduction

The theme of the 2006 event will be "Investing in Europe's regions and cities ", with a focus on public and private initiatives to boost growth and jobs.

Description

The established partnership between the Committee of the Regions, DG REGIO, regional representations and the European Parliament Regional Development Committee will be expanded to include input from financial institutions, social partners, civil society and other groups engaged in economic and social development.

Programme

The seminars and workshops will address five sub-themes, based on the overall headline:

investing in competitive enterprises and high quality jobs;
fostering regional research and innovation;
investing in sustainable use of resources and environmental technologies;
supporting public-private partnerships for larger infrastructure projects;
cutting red tape: managing the Structural Funds between 2007 and 2013.
