NICHES seminar on urban transport – Brussels, 12 December 2006
12-12-2006, Source: Council for European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR)

Introduction
Representatives from European local governments are invited to participate in the seminar "Today's Urban Transport at Tomorrow's Crossroad - Innovative Solutions Meeting Local Challenges", on 12 December 2006 in Brussels.
Description
The seminar is part of the NICHES project (New and Innovative Concepts for Helping European transport Sustainability) and is organised by POLIS (the network of European municipalities promoting better public transport), together with the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR) and the Committee of the Regions.
At the event local elected representatives from European cities will present their initiatives for making urban transport more efficient, competitive and sustainable in their respective cities. Lyon for instance will present its “rent-a-bike” scheme and Barcelona will describe how it optimizes space for urban freight delivery, while Stockholm will explain how it actively promotes clean vehicles.
The seminar will also consist of a round table discussion on urban transport innovation and of a presentation of the NICHES mobility concepts. Speakers will include local elected representatives, the European Commission, the Committee of the Regions, as well as transport experts.
NICHES is a EU funded project. It aims at stimulating a wide debate on innovative urban transport and mobility, and to promote the most promising new concepts, initiatives and projects. It was launched in November 2004 for a two year period, after which the final results and materials will be presented and discussed in a final conference.
Deadline for registration is 1 December 2006.
