Cooperation in metropolitan regions – Barcelona, 1 February 2007
01-02-2007

Introduction
Euricur, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Pompeu Fabra University organise a one-day seminar to present the findings of an international comparative research on new forms of cooperation in metropolitan regions. At the conference, the results of “Empowering Metropolitan Regions Through New Forms of Cooperation” will be discussed. The European Institute for Comparative Urban Research (EURICUR), together with eight metropolitan regions, have undertaken this research project.
Description
Most of the challenges that European metropolitan regions face nowadays (economic competitiveness, need for a regional approach, need for cross-sector partnerships) have important consequences for their governance. European cities and their regions are looking for adequate organisational models that are able to cope with these challenges.
“Empowering Metropolitan Regions Through New Forms of Cooperation” aims to provide answers to these questions. In the project, various forms of metropolitan governance have been studied to determine the factors for failure or success.
The seminar is intended for representatives of local, regional and national administrations interested in the search for new cross-border and cross-sector cooperation formulas, as well as for urban managers, experts and researchers in this topic.
