European standardisation and social housing – Brussels, 28 February 2007 28-02-2007, Source: CECODHAS Introduction Social Housing organisations are obliged to take an increasing number of EU
norms and standards into account in their daily operations. How can they, along
with their partners; local and regional representatives, local authorities,
tenants associations and inhabitants have an input into the standardisation
process?
Description
This question is becoming more relevant as the scope of EU standardisation
broadens to include a growing number of goods and services including those
services catering for the basic needs of the population in areas like health,
ageing, the environment, education and safety and crime prevention.
In view of this increasing relevance of EU norms, as well as the complexity
of the standardisation process, CECODHAS will hold a training seminar entitled
'Social Housing and European Standardisation' on February 28th in Brussels.
Through this training seminar, CECODHAS aims to empower its Members to ensure
that the interests of social housing organisations and the people they house are
not compromised by unsuitable norms and standards.
Speakers at the seminer will include MEP Beatrice Patrie who will present the
European Parliament's stance on the standardisation process, Jean Auroux,
President of the French Standards Association. Representatives from the European
Commission, The European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) and the European
Consumer Voice in Standardisation (ANEC) will also contribute to the seminar.
