Shifting sands – The role of good design in seaside regeneration - Littlehampton, 26 March 26-03-2007 Introduction In 2003, English Heritage and the UK Commission for Architecture and the
Built Environment (CABE) published a major new report, "Shifting Sands", on the
role of design in seaside regeneration. It demonstrated the impact that high
quality buildings and open spaces have on the ways that historic resorts are
developing, changing and re-inventing themselves. The Shifting Sands seminar
will revisit the issues highlighted in the report.
Description
The seminar will look closely at a number of current seaside projects in the
United Kingdom and consider how they contribute - or plan to contribute - to the
economy, quality of life and regeneration of coastal communities. This seminar
will be of particular interest to anyone involved in the management,
regeneration, promotion and conservation of seaside towns or with an interest in
presenting the best possible face of our seaside to visitors, investors,
residents and employees
