15th International Annual Conference and General Assembly of the Climate Alliance – Zurich, 9-11 May 2007 09-05-2007 Introduction The exceptionally warm start to the year and concurrent media reports on this
topic clearly show that the debate on climate change is no longer the preserve
of experts alone. Society is realising more and more that there is a relation
between record temperatures, an increase in extreme weather events and the
global increase in consumption of fossil fuels.
Description
It is important to implement the visions for the future set out in the Kyoto
Agreement, but it is also important to show that it is possible to achieve
ambitious targets by means of successful local projects. At the last Annual
Conference, the Climate Alliance member municipalities set new targets for
reduction of CO2 emissions and for integrating climate protection measures into
municipal processes and programmes.
The 15th Climate Alliance Annual Conference will focus on discussing
practical action schemes to create a climate-friendly society. It is necessary
to find realistic schemes that can be implemented in everyday life. The
conference offers participants the opportunity to join the general debate and to
share practical examples and experiences on this topic at the discussions and
workshops.
