EUROCITIES Mobility Forum Seminar – Netwerkstad Twente, 20-22 June 2007 20-06-2007 Introduction The theme of this edition of the mobility forum, is ‘Crossing Borders -
Transport & Traffic Challenges: Beyond solutions of the past, focus on the
future’. Netwerkstad Twente (NT) represents a strategically located conurbation,
boasting every conceivable kind of facility and forming a strong cultural and
economic unit. Netwerkstad Twente is, with almost 360.000 inhabitants, the
largest Dutch conurbation along the German border, which enables us to
co-operate closely with the German cities Münster and Osnabrück, the
cross-border metropolitan area MONT.
Description
A key aspect is the structural reinforcement of the national and
international competitive position of Netwerkstad Twente, where education,
research, government and business work together to improve the already strong
knowledge infrastructure. Co-operation centres on such aspects as accessibility,
level of facilities, high-quality residential and commercial locations, the
quality of life, and safety.
In terms of traffic and transport Netwerkstad Twente occupies a central
position in the Trans European Network (TEN) and in European goods transport.
The A1 and A35 motorways and the Berlin-Randstad railway line are international
links towards Central and Eastern Europe, i.e. the West-East Corridor. Completed
by the Enschede Airport Twente and the Twente canal, Netwerkstad Twente offers a
high level of inner and outer accessibility.
Against this background Netwerkstad Twente happily welcomes you for the
Mobility Forum meeting from 20 to 22 June coming. The programme offered is not
just of interest for the members of this forum, but also for other Eurocities
Forums.
