FiReComp international conference – Amsterdam, 14 June 2007 14-06-2007 Introduction On June 14th, 2007 the European Fire and Rescue Competence-based Training
(FiReComp) project organises an international conference. Twelve European fire
service organisations from seven different countries work together in this
project to develop a single description of duties and tasks for fire-fighters,
crew and group commanders in Europe.
Description
The project aim is to support the introduction and the spread of knowledge
about life long, competence-based learning of fire service professionals.
The project uses the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) to define the
duties and tasks of the fire fighting jobs. As result of this approach, the
European fire fighters are one of the first occupational groups in Europe for
which the EQF system is implemented at a European scale.
The project paves the road for harmonisation of fire and rescue jobs in
Europe. The FiReComp project results will, in the future, facilitate the
assessment of knowledge and skills of fire and rescue individuals.
The project results will be made available through an online application
“FiReComp Online”. Using this online system, educators throughout Europe will be
able to compare the level of competence of their own fire and rescue
professionals with the European “minimum level” as defined during the project.
“FiReComp Online” will also give easy insight in the education and confirmation
instruments available to enhance the knowledge and skills of fire and rescue
staff.
“FireComp Online” will be presented during the project final conference on
June 14th 2007 in Amsterdam.
