2007 Transforming Local Government conference ‘Leadership’ – Bellevue, 6-8 June 2007
06-06-2007

Introduction
The Transforming Local Government (TLG) conference represents the epitome of innovation in the public sector. TLG is notorious for powerful content that summons freethinking and fosters unprecedented ideas, all within an oasis of networking and learning. This dynamic conference is unique, focusing on building trust within the organisation, sustaining hope through the transformation process, and using the best tools to guide internal government groups and communities through powerful change initiatives.
Description
Each year the TLG conference is held within a model community that reflects applied innovation, creative, resourcefulness, and serviceable. The city of Bellevue, Washington was selected as the 2007 conference host city as it inspires other municipalities to advance their organisation’s mission and to move towards a realisation of its vision.
This year’s conference theme is leadership. Leadership will be examined as actions that target progress in which local governments engage the real problem versus symptoms, decoy concerns, or false tasks.  Are we facing or avoiding reality?
The conference addressed this theme through Applied Innovation Studies. These deliver unprecedented ideas, concepts, and procedures. Local governments will present how they achieved powerful results from intuitive, value driven ideas. Leading municipalities from across the country will conduct applied innovation studies on the following topics:
  • elected leadership
  • citizen engagement
  • community partnerships
  • environmental leadership
  • economic leadership
  • organisational transformation
  • home-grown innovation
