LGA annual conference 2007 ‘People and Places’ – Birmingham, 3-5 July 2007
03-07-2007

Introduction
‘Closer to People and Places’ is the new vision for local government in the United Kingdom. The annual conference of the Local Government Association (LGA) builds on the LGA’s campaign to devolve to local government and thereby empower local people. It will mark 10 years of the LGA working on behalf of local authorities in England and Wales.
Description
The ‘People and Places’ conference will focus on real life - the practical ways in which local government improves people's lives. It will feature demonstration projects and field trials of the new local performance framework and next generation Local Area Agreement, as well as trials to devolve economic powers. Underpinning local government's ambitions for communities will be the work on reputation in hand jointly between LGA and local authorities, and this will also be showcased at the event. Top-level opinion-formers and political speakers will be put on the spot to see how they can help deliver the vision for local government, local people and local places
Delegates from outside the UK are welcome to attend the LGA annual conference 2007. They must submit their applications, and funds must be cleared, to reach the LGA no later than six weeks before the conference.
