Sister Cities International Annual Conference – Fort Lauderdale, 18-21 July 2007
18-07-2007

Introduction
Sister Cities International is a non-profit citizen diplomacy network based in the United States (US). Sister Cities creates and strengthens partnerships between US and international communities in an effort to increase global cooperation at the municipal level, as well as to promote cultural understanding and to stimulate economic development. The Sister Cities 2007 Conference is themed 'The Next 50 Years of Sister Cities International' and offers participants from around the world the opportunity to network, learn about innovations and share knowledge and experiences.
Description
Sister Cities International aims to inspire private citizens, municipal officials and business leaders to engage in long-term sister city programmes. Sister Cities focuses on four programme areas:
  • arts and culture
  • humanitarian assistance
  • sustainable development
  • youth and education
The programmes involve two-way communication and should mutually benefit partnering communities.
During the 2007 Annual Conference, two local sister city programmes per programme area will be presented with an innovation award, recognising their outstanding efforts to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation. Deadline for submitting local programmes is 31 March 2007.
