Sister Cities International Annual Conference – Fort Lauderdale, 18-21 July 2007 18-07-2007 Introduction Sister Cities International is a non-profit citizen diplomacy network based
in the United States (US). Sister Cities creates and strengthens partnerships
between US and international communities in an effort to increase global
cooperation at the municipal level, as well as to promote cultural understanding
and to stimulate economic development. The Sister Cities 2007 Conference is
themed 'The Next 50 Years of Sister Cities International' and offers
participants from around the world the opportunity to network, learn about
innovations and share knowledge and experiences.
Description
Sister Cities International aims to inspire private citizens, municipal
officials and business leaders to engage in long-term sister city programmes.
Sister Cities focuses on four programme areas:
The programmes involve two-way communication and should mutually benefit
partnering communities.
During the 2007 Annual Conference, two local sister city programmes per
programme area will be presented with an innovation award, recognising their
outstanding efforts to promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and
cooperation. Deadline for submitting local programmes is 31 March 2007.
