First international conference on the geography of Europe - Amsterdam, 20-23 August 2007
19-08-2007

Introduction
EUGEO 2007 is the first major conference to be organised by the European Association of Geographical Societies. It is open to all who are engaged in a geographical field - be it in policy, planning, GIS and cartography, geographical education or other related areas - and who share the common interest: European landscapes, peoples, places and environments.
Description
The conference will be hosted by the Royal Dutch Geographical Society together with the University of Amsterdam. The organisers seek to bring together scholars and policy-makers from all over Europe and from a wide range of geographical disciplines and application fields. The aim of the conference is to generate new geographical views on Europe's major problems and present them in a format that is relevant to society, policy and business.
Programme
Six different themes will be discussed during the conference:
  • "Standort Europe" at risk.
  • Towards revitalised and cohesive cities.
  • The changing face of rural Europe.
  • Genuine European values: culture, identity and diversity.
  • Nature strikes back.
  • Balanced multilevel governance.
Location
The city of Amsterdam, the Netherlands
