Crime, crime prevention and communities in Europe – Bologna, 26-29 September 2007
26-09-2007

Introduction
The 2007 annual conference of the European Society of Criminology (ESC) will be jointly organized by the University of Bologna, Department of Education Sciences (Faculty of Vocational Training Sciences) and the Service of Safety Policies and Local Police of the Regione Emilia-Romagna.
Description
Following the tradition of the European Society Conferences of the past years, the Bologna Conference 2007 will pay attention to all issues concerning crime, crime prevention, deviance and criminal policies which are currently at the centre of criminological thought in Europe.
However, the focus this year will be on:
  • local/global crime phenomena
  • the role of local communities in crime prevention reaction and strategies
  • the coordination of European institutions, national states, regional and local governments in the governance of crime
The aims of the conference are:
  • to enhance exchanges and cooperation between European and other scholars, between academic and other institutions such as local governments and the police.
  • to contribute to the general development of criminological thought. Aim is to better understand - and better react upon – crime phenomena in their post modern, local/global fashion and in their relationship with the social dynamics of unsafety, fear of crime and community mobilisation and regeneration.
