UCLG’s 2nd World Congress ‘Changing cities are driving our world’ – Jeju, 28-31 October 2007
28-10-2007

Introduction
In an urbanised world, the action of local governments and metropolitan areas must be at the heart of the agenda of global development. The 2nd World Congress of United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG) is therefore themed ‘Changing cities are driving our world’. The Congress will be organised according to the priorities of local and regional officials and the challenges they face.
Description
Three key themes have been identified:
  • local governments as peace makers
  • cities addressing climate change
  • towards a new and fairer model of governance
Besides these plenary sessions the world congress will have workshops addressing more practical and concrete issues related to the daily management of local governments, such as: social inclusion, access to basic services, mobility, facing pandemics etc.
Associations of local governments from all over the world will gather in Jeju to share experiences and define the global agendas for the coming three years. It will be the largest gathering of mayors and local and regional government representatives in the world.
