The Global Knowledge Based Development week – Monterrey, 15-21 October 2007

Introduction
The Global Knowledge Based Development Week will be a assemblage of events aiming at gathering practitioners, government officers, academicians, policy-makers, financing institutions, consultants, students and public in general interested in knowledge as the most distinctive development factor of our time.
Description
The aim is to share state-of-the-art frameworks, methods, techniques and experiences for the understanding, management and evaluation of Knowledge Based Development (KBD) and Knowledge Cities. In this way contributing to set a global agenda in these fields.
By bringing together from all around the world specialists on KBD-related areas such as Knowledge Management, Economics, Urbanism, Policy-Studies, Geography and other fields, we expect to inaugurate a transdisciplinary, cross-regional, interinstitutional dialogue on this powerful but still scarcely understood phenomenon.
Programme
The programme will be composed of the following components:
The Universal Forum of Cultures and Knowledge Monterrey 2007 (Umbrella event)
After the First Edition took place in Barcelona in 2004, this international event in association with UNESCO will be hosted by The City of Monterrey from September through November, 2007.
The I Knowledge Cities Summit
A Conference taking place on Thursday 18 through Saturday 20. A selection of the best papers will be published as The 2008 Journal of Knowledge Management Special Issue on Knowledge-Based Development.
The Most Admired Knowledge Cities (MAKCi) Awards
Telos, the UK-based MAKE Award organizer and The World Capital Institute will partner to design and execute the global experts consultation that shall lead to the designation of the most admired knowledge cities in several categories and overall winner for 2007. Winners will be invited to present their cases at the Knowledge Cities Summit.
The Forum Dialogues on Knowledge Based Development
Following the Dialogues tradition characteristic of the Forum, these encounters will take place on Monday 15 through Friday 19 bringing some of the most recognized experts in the field.
The Ibero-American Community for Knowledge Systems General Assembly
This international Latin network devoted to knowledge management and knowledge-based development will hold its fifth annual assembly on Wednesday the 17.
Global Knowledge Concert
This open space event to be held on the morning of Saturday 20 will close the technical section of the week. All represented organizations, will face the challenge of integrating the different inputs generated throughout the week into a coherent and viable global KBD agenda.
Common events
The Knowledge Cities Exhibition, the KBD Children Workshops, the KBD Family Festival and each evening's Forum social and cultural events, will all contribute to merge participants into a global celebration of culture and knowledge. A number of workshops delivered by some of the international specialists on several knowledge-based development issues will take place in both Spanish and English on Monday 15 and Tuesday 16. Finally, several electronic and published resources will be issued before and after this week.
