Community engagement in planning - APaNGO closing conference – Brussels, 29-30 October 2007
29-10-2007

Introduction
APaNGO is a partly EU-funded, transnational knowledge network of NGOs and public sector organisations, dedicated to community engagement in planning. Its aim is to share and discuss innovative practices, techniques and case studies in community involvement in planning and development. It is one of the first European projects to focus on ways in which citizens and communities can shape development outcomes.
Description
The closing conference will explore the secrets of successful community engagement in planning. It will also address why too often lip-service is paid to the need for more substantial citizen participation in planning, while on the ground it is still not occurring.
