Workshop on Smart Economic Growth – Interreg – Utrecht, 18 October 2007
18-10-2007

Introduction
The partners in the Interreg project Smart Economic Growth are organising an international workshop in which teams of experts will be set the challenge of solving problems within a set of prepared scenarios (cases) in their capacities as “special agents”.
Description
In the expert sessions teams of 10-15 people will discuss the challenges North West Europe faces and solve real problems of several different cases, for example:
  • Free market operation in restructuring - Restructuring of business parks is very expensive. Who is going to pay for it? Is the free market willing to invest?
  • Carbon neutral business sites - What is a carbon neutral business site? How can you monitor it? Can you get financial support to develop a CO2 neutral business site? What can developers do and what kind of support can regional authorities offer?
  • Unattractive business parks: how to turn the tide - Privately owned sites on business parks are let down by being left vacant, by a lack of management and general untidiness that can make them an eyesore. What can public authorities do to upgrade such business parks and help bring about a ‘high quality business region of the 21 Century’?
  • Temporary space use - The transition of the industrial city towards the globalised structure results in different kinds of spaces falling into disuse. Is it possible to combine the interests of different actors to find new (temporary) use for such spaces?
  • Moving premises - A firm has outgrown existing premises and needs to either refurbish premises (making more efficient use of space) or move to larger premises. What are the principal considerations? What are the issues for the employees?

Participation in the international workshop is free. You can register until 5 October by sending an email to Renee Kraaier
