WaterfrontExpo 2007 – Lisbon, 2-4 October 2007
02-10-2007

Introduction
WaterfrontExpo is an international conference and exhibition about the planning, design and development of waterfronts. Following successful events in London, Amsterdam, Riga and Glasgow, the 2007 event is being hosted by the waterfront city of Lisbon.
Description
WaterfrontExpo 2007 addresses the following themes:
  • Sustainable waterfront development – This is the main theme of the event. Every waterfront city in the world wants to be thought of as promoting sustainable development. But what does it actually mean? The Lisbon, Vienna and Vancouver case studies will focus on this, and in particular issues such as community development, ecology and energy efficiency.
  • Design as a driver for development – Most of the world's best known and commercially successful waterfronts exhibit cutting-edge architecture and planning. Waterfront design: substance or spin? The case studies from Bahrain, Vilamoura and Gdansk will go some way to answering this.
  • Capitalising on culture – Competition between waterfront cities is intense. How can culture and leisure be leveraged to attract tourists, investors and tenants? Delegates will find the Valencia and Fremantle (both America’s Cup hosts 21 years apart) and Recife (Brazil) case studies illuminating in this respect.
  • Funding & infrastructure – This is the business-end of waterfront development. How should developers begin preparing projects for the investment market? How can large infrastructure projects with little or no return be financed? Live examples from Middlesbrough, Liverpool and Portland will illustrate these issues and put forward some solutions.
