The main goal of this international conference is to bring together volcanologists, city planners, social scientists, disaster managers, the medical community, mass media and so on. At the conference their knowledge and experiences will be evaluated and discussed, in order to improve prevention and mitigation measures, land use planning and emergency management. This is all required to successfully confront volcanic crises in densely populated areas and to recover from the devastation following an eruption.
