World Forum on Sustainable Mobility – Nantes, 10-12 December 2007
10-12-2007

Introduction
While our planet is at the same time facing climatic changes, as well as a sharp decline in oil-based resources, it is within the responsibility of local authorities to orchestrate the mobility of its citizens and the transportation of goods in urban and regional areas.
Description
The debates and exchanges facilitated in Nantes by the World Forum on Sustainable Mobility, between elected representatives, technicians, specialists and researchers will focus on policies and governance of sustainable mobility in urban areas.
The steering committee, composed of international experts in the field of mobility, has identified 5 priority issues:
  • To integrate Mobility within the sustainable development policies adopted by urban and inter-urban structures.
  • To identify the necessary challenging issues relating to the current decision-making process, to financing, to the objectives of the North/South cooperation and to the "carbon economy".
  • To measure the effects and opportunities of sustainable mobility policies: What can be learned from current practices? Which research programmes should be initiated? What type of new cooperation should be encouraged? Which financing tools should be used?
  • To raise the issue of coordination between the decision-making bodies: the position taken by local authorities in the definition and implementation of mobility policies, the tools necessary for national and international coordination, and the position taken by social influential organisations and by citizens.
  • To measure the impact of sustainable mobility policies on the environment, on individual and social behaviour and on the economy.
A 3-day Forum between researchers, economists, sociologists, urban planners, various economic players and local elected representatives.
