SILENCE Seminar: Reducing railway noise in urban areas - Paris, 17 January 2008 17-01-2008 Introduction Although noise limits have become increasingly stringent over the years, no
corresponding reduction in noise levels in urban areas has been observed.
Therefore, European noise policy has been revised to focus on noise perception,
to avoid the harmful effects of noise exposure from all sources, and to preserve
quiet areas. SILENCE, a research project co- funded by the European Commission,
aims to develop an integrated methodology for the improved control of surface
transport noise in urban areas.
Description
Among other things, SILENCE will provide relevant and world-leading
technologies for the efficient control of railway noise and practical tools for
their implementation.
Now that the project is coming to an end, most results are available. This seminar aims to inform railway stakeholders of the innovative output of the railway activities in SILENCE and will point out the potential of different noise abatement measures. Participation in the workshop is free of charge, places are however limited,
so you are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
